DASTIC.
Genre: Tech House, Bass House, Dance
Having built an impressive resume with his headstrong take on contemporary electronic music, Dutch DJ/producer Dastic has now impressively re-invented himself. Opening a fresh chapter that brings him closer to his persona than ever before, he’s employed a certain singer-songwriter craftsmanship into a revamped, more authentic production sound, opening doors from UK garage to drum ’n bass and cleverly infused AI tricks. “I wanted to tell my own story, with songs that are close to my heart. It’s caused an incredible flow of creativity; ever since embarking on this trip, I’ve felt on fire.”
With songs emerging as steady as the clock, Dastic has evolved into theartist he wants to be. 2023 already saw him drop revitalizing singles “Loved By You” (feat. JAI RYU), a collab with fellow Dutch DJ/producer Aeden, the widely supported festival gem “Out Of Time,” and a teamup with Korean artist KDH on “I Like Your Body,” all showcasing a radiant, more profound electronic vibe, built upon electrifying beats and strong, eye-catching hooks.
Now, he’s taking things further, as Dastic delivers his aptly titled debut album It All Makes Sense. Featuring an impressive gust of his newfound energy, the album brings a wide range of tunes, diving deeper into thosefierce garage beats, as well as Dastic’s burgeoning singer-songwriter qualities and the leading message of his recent self-discovery.
Lead single “Honest” speaks volumes, as well as the mesmerizing track “Chaos,” the touching vocals of “It All Makes Sense” or the mood on “Loved By You.” In every way, Dastic sounds eager to present his new persona - meanwhile inspiring his audience to always keep developing yourself.
“I’ve been producing tracks since I was 14-years old, often using the same tricks, leading to songs that started to sound similar to me. Basically, I wanted to through out my laptop and start over fresh. Then, as if the universe felt my yearning, I discovered a sound that brought me the impulse I needed, opening new doors in my mind, making me realizehow I wanted to produce my music.”
Entering the scene in 2010, Dastic already left his imprint with a fresh mix of bass heavy, future bounce house music. Whilst having solid success in the years since, Dastic felt the need to change - pondering over a transition of sound that would take him down a whole new path.
Catching a show by UK phenomenon Fred Again initially opened his eyes. Not only the use of UK garage and drum ’n bass felt refreshing, it was the element of surprise that threw Dastic in the right direction. Employing a songwriting approach, yet nothing alike, tunes ranging between 80 to 140 bpm, a huge blast of unconfined productional joy, while still delivering a steady sound and vibe throughout the songs.
Dastic mentions BUNT. and Overmono as similar influences, revealing that he envisioned to incorporate their impact and inventiveness with his own distinct production style, adding personal touches with self-written lyrics and captivating melodies. Without knowing, it was the start of a whole new chapter in his career, effectively leading to a remarkable milestone only a year later.
“Once I got into this fresh flow, I couldn’t stop producing new music. I didseveral writing camps, wrote my own lyrics, employed AI to work them into my songs, and continued this for two consecutive months, working in my studio for almost every day. I definitely re-discovered myself; the excitement was tangible in every sense.”
Finding your own voice is one thing, translating it into a collection of fresh, unique sounding productions is another. Especially when it comes to Dastic, an artist who already reached notable highs in the first chapterof his career, the transformation is simply impressive. Yet, when you hear the music, it all makes sense.
“I feel this is only the beginning. I want to play these songs live, not only DJing, but constructing them on stage using DJ set and drum machine -turn them into something new and thrilling. Yeah, perhaps play Boiler Room one day, and headline festivals with my show. Anything is possible, is how I feel now. I’ve finally connected my heart with my music, now I’m ready to take things sky high.”
